Bailao & Co Debuts Three Signature Candles

Scents for a More Present Life

Bailao & Co, the African-Nordic wellness house based in Copenhagen, debuts three signature candles this autumn — hand-poured in Denmark using a wax blend of Danish-sourced beeswax, coconut wax and coconut oil. Founder Mouna Skoubølling Jacobsen built the collection to bring ancestral fragrance traditions into modern everyday life.

“I didn’t create another candle because the world needed more candles. I created the candle I couldn’t find.”
Mouna Skoubølling Jacobsen — Founder, Bailao & Co
In Her Own Words

It started with something I couldn’t find. Candles have always been special to me. Growing up, light, fragrance and ritual were part of daily life — in my grandmother’s home, in the homes of family and in the communities around me. Candles created warmth, connection and a sense of belonging.

But as I became more conscious of what I was bringing into my own home, I started to question what I was actually burning. Even some of the most beautiful and expensive candles didn’t feel right. Some used waxes that didn’t burn the way I wanted them to, while many fragrances felt synthetic, overpowering or simply too much. I wanted scent in my home — but I wanted it to feel softer, more considered and clean.

That awareness sharpened after October 2024, when I survived a house fire. In its aftermath, I became newly sensitive to scent, while also navigating a period of illness — both of which made me far more conscious of what I let into my home and onto my body.

So I began experimenting. I explored different waxes, wicks and fragrance compositions, eventually developing a blend of coconut wax, Danish-sourced beeswax and coconut oil, paired with fine fragrance oils from Grasse. I wanted beautiful scent throw without the feeling that fragrance had taken over the room.

What began as a personal search became a return to the scents and rituals of her upbringing — rose, oud, saffron, musk. That became Bailao & Co: three scents, three intentions, and an invitation to turn an everyday moment into ritual.

A Conscious Choice
Hand-poured in Denmark with wooden wicks and a 10% fragrance concentration. Each reusable 10oz glass vessel holds approximately 280g of wax and burns 60+ hours — and once finished, the airtight mahogany lid makes it suitable for storing tea, jewellery, or small treasures. For Bailao & Co, luxury means objects made to remain in the home.
Giving Back
For me, Bailao & Co has always been about more than the candle itself. It’s a way to share beauty — and to bring something healthier and more conscious into people’s homes. But it doesn’t stop there. As the brand grows, my vision is for Bailao & Co to also become a way of giving back — supporting women and children in West Africa, the place my own roots trace back to.

About

Bailao & Co

An African-Nordic wellness house founded by Mouna Skoubølling Jacobsen as a love letter to her late grandmother, Bailao. After eleven years in IT corporate sales, Mouna’s own return to a slower way of living became the beginning of the brand — uniting African family tradition with the calm simplicity of modern Nordic life.

Rooted in Ritual. Rising in Radiance.
